Massage therapy in Tallinn

Deep tissue and orthopedic massage

The primary goal of deep tissue massage is less about general relaxation and more about reducing pain and stiffness in the body, improving posture and flexibility by releasing chronically tight and shortened muscles and fascia. This is accomplished by applying a combination of slow compressive and lenghtening strokes to the involved musculature.

Additionally to hands, therapist may use fingertips, knuckles, forearms and elbows during the deep tissue work. Some of the same strokes are used as in classical (Swedish) massage, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain. So it works also with the deeper muscles. Because of that people usually feel deep tissue massage much more beneficial.

Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension and stiffness in the muscles and the connective tissue. It is particularly recommended for individuals who experience chronic pain, limited mobility, postural problems, are involved in heavy physical activity and clients who have sports injuries or any other kind of sustained physical injuries.

When there is chronic hypertonicity or injury, there are usually adhesions (rigid, fibrotic tissue) within or between muscles and other soft tissue structures. Adhesions can cause decreased muscle function, limited movement and pain. Deep tissue techniques works by mechanically softening up and breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain, improve muscle function and restore normal movement. To do this, the therapist may also use direct deep pressure or friction applied across the fibers of the muscles, tendons or ligaments. Clients can notice improved range of motion immediately after therapy session.

For better benefits, I also use trigger point therapy and various techniques for stretching tight muscles and activating weak muscles. It is important for better muscle balance and stability of joints.

Additio
nal tips for treatment

In the beginning of the session I ask some questions from you and do some assessment procedures. For getting information about your condition and for being sure that massage is safe for you.

At certain points during the massage, you may feel some discomfort or pain. It is important to communicate what you are feeling.

If necessary, I also teach to you some therapeutic exercises, how you can improve condition of muscles by yourself.

It is useful to drink plenty of water after the session to flush metabolic waste from the tissues.
